NEW FORUM FOUND IN "GROUPS"

Ladies and gentlemen,

As advised earlier, the CIN/RCR Forum, found in the upper "More" menu on the website, has been closed. It will remain visible for reading until October.

All new messages or posts should now be entered in The Forum found in the "Groups" title listed in the same "More" menu.

Please try it out over the next few days, to help identify if there are any gremlins still to be sorted out. Thanks.

Best regards,

Jim

CIN/RCR VIRTUAL INTELLIGENCE COFFEE SHOP (VICS) ON THURSDAY, 25 SEPTEMBER - THREATS TO THE NATIONAL SECURITY OF CANADA

Ladies and gentlemen,

The next VICS will be held on Thursday, 25 September 2025, at 7:00 p.m. (Eastern), on Zoom. The VICS format is outlined in the "More" menu on the website homepage.

To begin our fall program, you are invited to sit down with a hot coffee, or any other preferred drink, and join others in a discussion about the threats to the national security of Canada. Prime Minister Carney has describe the current Canadian circumstance as a "rupture" from our traditional middle power status and relationship with the United States. There are a number of other world events and developments that must be recognized for the danger they pose to our country.

We would like to hear what you think are the imminent threats to the national security of Canada, and what you see as being their practical impact on Canada and Canadians. Sure, maybe climate change is…

2 Intelligence Senate Fundraising Whiskey Tasting - September, 28th, 2025 - 7 PM - 9 PM (Toronto)

Good afternoon,

It's my pleasure to announce that the 2 INT Senate will be hosting a fundraising Whiskey Tasting event to help finance the costs of our newest cabinets. These cabinets will be featuring artifacts related to the Canadian Cyclist Corps and will include a legendary, intact Canadian-made Planet Bicycle.

We would appreciate any support that we can get in these efforts. To our knowledge, there are only two known examples of an intact, original Planet bicycle in Canada and this is one of them. It is an immense privilege and honour to feature this iconic piece of Canadian history in our museum and we hope that the CIN, OMMC, CMIA and the Canadian intelligence community will be able to support us.

Below is a link to the Whiskey tasting and any and all CIN members and/or friends are welcome to come.

Tickets can be purchased below:

THIS FORUM WILL BE MIGRATING TO A NEW SITE

Ladies and gentlemen,

This CIN/RCR Forum will be moving from its current location to a new home in WIX GROUPS. Starting 15 October 2025, this current Forum will be functionally limited and you'll not be able to create any new posts here. It will be completely disabled by 1 March 2026.

To avoid all that hassle, I'll be moving the CIN/RCR Forum to WIX GROUPS next week. There will be some disruption as the change takes place, but I will let you know when the migration is complete and we can resume posting as usual.

Best regards,

Jim

NEW BOOK BY ALAN BARNES

Alan Barnes, a veteran of the Canadian Intelligence Enterprise (CIE),  has just published a book dealing dealing with Canadian intelligence assessments in the early Cold War. It is available from UBC Press or Amazon.ca

CIN/RCR members can get the book at a discount, from UBC Press, using discount code 1662-40. This is good for a 40% discount on the hardcopy and e-book versions currently available on the UBC Press website and will be active until 25 November. Unfortunately, the paperback version of the book will not be available until spring 2026.

Watching the Bear: Canadian Intelligence Assessments of the Soviet Threat to North America, 1946-64.

As the Soviet threat to North America evolved in the early Cold War, the world was watching. What was the view from Ottawa? The role that intelligence played in Canadian foreign policy and defence decisions has been largely ignored to date. Watching the Bear begins to tell…
