"Out of the Shadows: True Stories of Canada’s Spies, from creator and executive producer Matthew A. MacDonald, PhD, is a powerful new documentary series in development that pulls back the curtain on the secretive world of Canadian intelligence.
Each episode delves into real operations, featuring exclusive interviews, cinematic reenactments, and archival footage.
The goal is to educate and engage viewers by presenting compelling, human-centered stories that illuminate the challenges and complexities of intelligence work and explore the vital role of CSIS, CSE, and other key players in protecting Canada’s national security.
We are currently inviting former intelligence officers, analysts, cybersecurity experts, and others with relevant experience in Canada’s national security and intelligence community to meet to discuss sharing their stories on camera, with no firm commitment required at this stage.
This project is intended to be a respectful, responsible, and positive portrayal of the intelligence community, and we have made a request to CSIS and CSE for their endorsement and support; this is about informing and inspiring Canadians, including those who work in this field.
Your voice can help bridge a critical gap in public understanding. A federal survey recently revealed that most Canadians are unaware of what national security agencies do—an information gap that poses risks in an increasingly unstable world.
